Manni Chen, PhD

Dr Manni Chen is the first PhD alumna from SoundLab. Here’s her testimonial::

A year has nearly passed since I defended my thesis on August 14, 2024, and while I am now a postdoctoral researcher at Shenzhen University, my thoughts often return to SoundLab. I look back on my four years at the SoundLab as the happiest of my life. I was lucky to see SoundLab grow from its beginning, surrounded by youthful energy, a relaxed yet ambitious atmosphere, and wonderful people.

I am eternally grateful to the people in SoundLab. To my supervisor, PerMagnus—being your student was one of the greatest privileges of my life. To my co-supervisor, Ryo, whose profound kindness made me feel truly supported. Thank you to GUI for the warmth you brought, and to Para, the technical genius who joined in my third year. My thanks also go to my colleagues Ran, Val, and Qianxi, and to the other SoundLab people I wish I had connected with more deeply, like Charles, Cheng, Qiaosheng, and Ryan etc.

Life as a postdoc can be tough, but when I feel overwhelmed, I draw strength from these memories. SoundLab remains my inner sanctuary, giving me the strength to face whatever lies ahead.
