Internship positions – Music & AI in Huawei

SoundLab is exploring multiple collaboration opportunities with Huawei’s lab in Hong Kong. There are currently four open internship positions, as below. For more information, contact Dr PerMagnus Lindborg and/or Dr Simon Lui at the email below.

Internships :: Music & AI in Huawei

4 Internship positions are available at the Audio Engineering Group, Central Media Technology Institute, 2012 Laboratories, Huawei (華為2012實驗室中央媒體技術院/音頻工程部). These positions are physically based in the Huawei Hong Kong Research Center, Hong Kong Science Park, Shatin. The duration of these positions are flexible (2 to 12 months).

Through Huawei’s complete ecosystem of smartphones, earbuds, headphones, speakers, car audio system, and TV, we aim at providing the best immersive audio experience for people to enjoy music, anytime and anywhere. This is achieved by our adaptive and intelligent audio technology such as MIR, TTS, AI composition, spatial audio, audio fingerprint, super resolution, noise cancellation, etc. We are looking for talented young engineers to achieve these together.

Job description:
Research and development in one of the projects below.
– AI composition. To generate functional music for jogging, sleeping, reading, etc.
– Music evaluation. Including singing skills, resonance, chord progression, instrumentation, etc.
– Music emotion classification.
– Design a strategy to arrange the music objects in the 360° space of spatial audio.

Minimum Qualification:
– Major in computer science, music, creative media or related field.
– Proficient in python, deep understanding in common algorithms and data structures.  
– Strong self-learning ability, strong passion in music.

Preferred Qualification:
– Strong publication record demonstrating innovative research.
– Solid understanding in Audio & Digital Signal Processing (DSP).  
– Experienced in deep learning and machine learning. Familiar with at least one framework (e.g. pytorch/tensorflow).
– Experienced in Music information retrieval (MIR), such as pitch tracking, beat tracking, chord analysis, and music key identification.
– Experienced in music production with any Digital audio workstation (DAW), understand EQ/reverb/mastering operation.
