SUBMISSIONS TO THE DATA SONIFICATION AWARDS ARE OPEN!

The Data Sonification Archive and Loud Numbers are pleased to announce the Data Sonification Awards, an annual event to recognise excellence in the field of data sonification.

The awards serve to recognise outstanding work in the field, as well as encourage and reward best practices. The goal is to uplift the entire data sonification community and foster strong connections between researchers, artists, journalists, communicators, designers, professionals, and other people who use sonification in their work.

How it works
Sonification projects released in the last two years can be submitted in three categories – Arts, Communication, and Analysis by December 31st. Submitted works will be evaluated by volunteer judges from the community based on the criteria for each category. These criteria have been developed by the community, and will be updated annually to reflect the state of the art.

All entries that meet the criteria will be equally recognized as winners. These top-tier sonifications will be announced on 20 March 2025 during the Design Research Week at Northeastern University Center for Design at CAMD in Boston, and will also be permanently showcased in the Data Sonification Archive (https://sonifcation.design).

Winning entries will receive widespread exposure and recognition within the data sonification community, offering tangible proof of their exceptional quality. This could lead to  access to funding, inclusion in curated exhibitions, media coverage and being featured at academic conferences.

The team
The Data Sonification Awards is a collaboration between the Data Sonification Archive (represented by founders and co-curators Sara Lenzi and Paolo Ciuccarelli) and Duncan Geere from the Loud Numbers data sonification studio.
