Research Assistants – Multimodal Hong Kong

We are seeking to hire two Research Assistants (initially part-time) from September 2024. You will be attached to the GRF-granted project:: Multimodal Hong Kong: Documenting Sensory Cultural Heritage through Soundscape and Smellscape, led by Dr PerMagnus Lindborg. Research Assistant (database & website)

1. Assist in the design of MMHK database, containing audio, video, images, text, and other data;
2. Organise database materials on local and remote storage (e.g. SQL);
3. Streamline web access to MMHK database from our website (which currently runs WordPress);
4. Assist in UX testing of MMHK website and database; and
5. Assist in research project administrative tasks (e.g. preparing written and oral reports).

Requirements

1. Minimum a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, with no more than a total of 6 years of service at the University;
2. Excellent command of written and spoken English.
3. Skills and documented experience in database management (e.g. SQL, Python, R) is required.
4. Skills in dynamic website development (e.g. Javascript, PHP, HTML5) is a strong plus.
5. Skills in handling audiovideo media formats is a plus.

Research Assistant (field & lab)

1. Assist in literature reviews in the fields of soundscape, smellscape, and intangible heritage;
2. Organise and conduct interviews with research participants and other stakeholders;
3. Transcribe recordings of field interviews and translate to English;
4. Assist in content analysis of interviews;
5. Assist in the collection of field data (sensory walks, interviews/surveys, audiovisual recordings, air sampling); and
6. Assist in the management of the administration of the research project (e.g. preparing written and oral reports).

Requirements

1. Minimum a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, with no more than a total of 6 years of service at the University;
2. Excellent command of written and spoken English and Cantonese is required;
3. Skills in computer-assisted content analysis, e.g. R Studio is a strong plus.
4. Experience in field data collection (sensory walks, interviews/surveys, audio-visual recordings, air sampling) is a plus.
5. Good level of spoken Putonghua is a plus;
