HKNME: Teatro dei Portali by Giovanni Santini

Teatro dei Portali, a show designed for VR/AR performer, ensemble, live-electronics, spatial audio and multiple projections. The show explores new ways of artmaking by connecting virtual and real spaces: how can we bring virtual worlds on stage? How are music notation and embodied interactions affected? What new aesthetic dimensions can we embrace?

Sounding Tomorrow is a brand-new commissioning platform launched for NME15 (Hong Kong New Music Ensemble’s 15th anniversary in 2022/23 – is a visionary series of interconnected projects that witness the HKNME breaking new grounds in areas of education, outreach, research, publication and performances.), supported by SoundLab, School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. In response to the rising interest in integrating the arts with new application of technology, with the specific aim of uniting composers, video/sound artists, new media artists and lighting designers from Hong Kong under one roof. 

This time, we are delighted to invite Giovanni Santini as the performer, as an XR artist, composer, and founder of Santini Digital who merges artwork and research in new technologies and media. His recent work explores the realisation of mixed reality hybrid instruments for live audio-visual performance and the boundaries between opera and VR installation. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in Suzhou.
